Quin's Corner

Hi there! I'm Quin the Quokka.

I love sunshine, movement, muddy puddles, and feeling the earth beneath my feet. I know that energy isn't about being busy all the time. It's about learning when our Brilliant Bodies need movement, nourishment, connection, play, or rest.

In Quin's Corner, we'll explore the many ways our bodies create, use, and restore energy. Together, we'll discover how nature, hydration, minerals, touch, and paying attention to our nervous systems can help us feel more balanced and connected.

After all, our energy matters.

And sometimes, the bravest thing we can do is slow down long enough to listen to what our Brilliant Bodies need.

WHY ENERGY MATTERS

We are energetic beings

Have you ever noticed how some days you feel full of energy and ready to explore, while on other days even getting out of bed feels hard work?

Quin the Quokka likes to remind us that our Brilliant Bodies are always working hard behind the scenes. Every heartbeat, every thought, every movement, and every breath relies on tiny electrical signals travelling throughout the body.

Our brains and nerves communicate using electrical and chemical messages. These signals help us think, move, feel, and respond to the world around us. In many ways, our bodies are a little bit like batteries - designed to generate, use, and restore energy throughout the day.

Grounded and connected

Many people find that spending time in nature helps them feel calmer, clearer, and more connected. Whether it's walking barefoot on the grass, feeling the sand between your toes, swimming in the ocean, or simply sitting under a tree, the natural world often invites our nervous systems to slow down and settle.

Quin loves reminding us that we are part of nature, too.

The language of energy

Have you ever met someone and instantly felt comfortable around them? Or perhaps you've had the opposite experience and noticed that something didn't quite feel right?

Sometimes we describe these experiences as a "gut feeling," a "vibe," or an intuitive sense about a person or situation. We believe that paying attention to these subtle experiences can help us become more aware of ourselves and our relationships. While science continues to explore the complexities of human connection, we know that our nervous systems are constantly scanning our environments for cues of safety and protection.

The importance of touch

Safe, nurturing touch plays an important role in wellbeing. Hugs, hand-holding, cuddles, and affectionate contact can help us feel connected and supported. Touch also encourages the release of oxytocin, sometimes called the "bonding hormone," which supports feelings of trust, belonging, and connection. As social beings, we are designed to co-regulate with one another.

Supporting Your Brilliant Body's energy

Quin reminds us that looking after our energy doesn't have to be complicated.

Simple things matter.

  • Spending time outdoors

  • Staying well hydrated

  • Ensuring our bodies receive important minerals and electrolytes such as sodium, potassium, magnesium, calcium, and chloride

  • Moving our bodies regularly

  • Prioritising rest and recovery

  • Taking breaks from screens and overstimulation

  • Connecting with safe people

When energy feels low

Periods of prolonged stress, illness, grief, overwhelm, or living in survival mode can leave us feeling flat, disconnected, or depleted.

When this happens, our Brilliant Bodies aren't failing us. They may simply be asking for support.

  • Tiny steps count.

  • A drink of water.

  • A walk outside.

  • A nourishing meal.

  • A cuddle with someone safe.

  • A deep breath.

Quin reminds us that energy is not about being "on" all the time. It's about learning to notice what our Brilliant Bodies need and responding with kindness. Because sometimes the bravest thing we can do is slow down long enough to listen.
